Winterburn: “This Season Has Gone Completely Wrong”

Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn has admitted that it has been a disastrous season for his former Club, but he still believes Arsene Wenger is the right man to take Arsenal forward.

The Gunners were knocked out of the FA Cup on Saturday by Sunderland. Following the demolition in the Champions League midweek at the hands of AC Milan, it capped one of the most miserable weeks in the club's recent history.

And with Arsenal 17 points adrift of top of the table Manchester City in the Premier League, Saturday's defeat looks likely to have consigned them to another trophy-less season.

Winterburn, who played over 400 games for the Gunners, told Sky Sports News today that despite this season going 'completely wrong', Wenger is still the man:

"I have said since the start of the season and all the way through this bit of crisis that I still believe Arsene Wenger is the right man for the football club.

"I love the way he plays his football and the way he sets out his teams."

"What I belive he needs to do is look at the team at the end of the season and say: 'I believed this team was good enough, it hasn't produced for me. I now need to strengthen this team and let two or three players go,'" he added

"He can't let 5 or six players go because if it needs to be strengthened then that's 10 players he's got to bring in and that's not going to happen.

"Let's not forget that they do have some quality players at Arsenal. It's just this season has gone completely wrong for them"
